Spread the love

Have you meet Dubai based Narmeen, the namesake behind local arty brand ‘Narmeen Nasers Art‘? If you haven’t you need to get with the program; her range of locally inspired handcrafted homeware and paintings are bold, colourful and simply gorgeous!

Narmeen’s subject matter varies between Islamic and European Architecture and Pop Culture Inspired Portraits, and her love of colour does not go unnoticed… Narmeen’s work is the perfect example of a local keepsake that is (a) actually designed and made in the UAE, and (b) something that you really do want to own… it truly represents the art of living.

So grab a coffee, get comfy and get to know the talented Saffron Souk shop keeper, Narmeen Naser a little better…

What sort of products do you market?
My Narmeen Nasers Art products range from my large canvas paintings of Middle Eastern landscapes and architecture, as well as my more expressive figurative paintings of women. I also have handpainted cushions. All my products showcase my love for colour!

When and why did you decide to start your own business?
I have always loved crafts and painting and have recently learnt how to sew. I started off producing paintings and cushions for friends and family as gifts when I realized that more and more people were showing appreciation for my style of work. I love being able to add color to peoples homes through my art!

3. Narmeen has combined her love of Dubai with her talent as an artist (and her recent sewing skills!) to produce these divine handcrafted cushions – and the prices are a steal when you think about how much effort goes into each one…

What’s the best thing about setting up your own brand?
Setting up your own brand really helps customers see that you are serious about your artwork. Rather than when I was just painting and selling at home, having a brand line really opens up a lot of doors for you. It definitely makes you more identifiable and helps you hone your skills to perfect your craft.

What are some of the challenges you’ve faced?
Challenges include managing time between my fulltime job and managing the marketing and business aspect of my brand. I definitely like to unwind after work by painting but when you set up a brand, you definitely have to learn to be more social media savvy and learn how to operate as a business.

4. Narmeen paints to unwind after work. This paint combination makes Narmeen DROOOOOL…….

What do you love about selling online?
I love that my products can sell themselves and customers don’t really need a backstory. As much as I love interacting with my customers and see how diverse they are from one another, it’s nice to see that a lot of busy people with hectic lifestyles, who may not have the time to visit the shows that I display in, can still have access to my work. An online portal definitely widens your market and exposures your work to wider audiences.

Where do you source your materials?
My materials are all sourced within Dubai.

What sets your products apart?
I love Middle Eastern Architecture and Dubai’s heritage and I like to present these classical forms in a more modern style through my vibrant colours.

Where do you get your inspiration to be creative from?
Dubai!!! I was born and raised here and Dubai is definitely my favourite city in the world. I love how you are exposed to so many different cultures in one tiny little city. The diversity around which I grew up is a huge influencer on my paintings.
